A TSA certified lock is a lock certified by the Transportation Security Administration to be compliant with TSA standards. TSA standards say that the lock needs to be able to be unlocked without the need for cutting the lock off in order to gain access to suspicious luggage. The lock must have a "master" key which allows it to be accessed by anyone working for the TSA or airport security. This "master" key is a universal key that works with any and all TSA certified lock. TSA stands for Transportation and Security Administration. The TSA has a job of securing our airports and airplanes from destruction due to terrorist attacks both home and abroad. TSA locks are locks that are approved by the TS Aministration for use on luggage coming into and out of our airports. Luggage is screened electronically through screeners where the luggage is placed on conveyors and run through the airport x-ray screening system to provide a digital image of the contents of a persons baggage to ensure there are no weapons or illegal items in their bags. Occasionally there are times that airport law enforcement will need to physically gain access to a person's luggage due to suspicions of illegal items such as contraband or antiquities that are not permitted into our may outside of our country.
